The Board of Directors of the New Castle Area
School District has the
authority to impose limitations on students' dress in the school, and the Board
has established and implemented an apparel policy which sets forth the
students' dress throughout the District.
Notwithstanding the
aforementioned dress apparel policy, students may be required to wear certain
types of clothing while participating in physical education classes, technical
education, extracurricular activities, or other situations where special attire
may be required to ensure the health or safety of the student.
The building principal or designee shall be responsible to
monitor student dress and grooming and enforce school rules governing student
dress and grooming in accordance with the District's apparel policy.
The Superintendent or designee shall ensure that all rules
implementing this policy be in accord with the District apparel policy and be
imposed to all students Pre-K through Grade 12
Bottoms
Bottoms must be black and/or khaki in color. They must fit and are limited to the
following specifications:
1) pleated and
straight with no more than four (4) pockets
2) shorts no
more than three (3) inches above the top of the knee
3) skirts no
more than three (3) inches above the top of the knee
4) capris
5) skorts
They may be of denim or other material to include corduroy
provided the material complies with the color restrictions. At no time are blue jeans permitted of any
type.
Cargo pants of any color are not permitted nor are
fashionable rips, tears, and/or slices on or in any clothing. If pants or bottoms have belt loops, a belt
must be worn. Pants and bottoms may
contain the manufacturer's label; but no other emblem or insignia is permitted.
Tops
Tops must be red, black, white, and/or gray and as set forth
below:
1) long and
short sleeve polo shirts,
2) long and
short sleeve crew neck shirts,
3) sweatshirt
(no hood)
4) sweater
5) vest
6) blouse
7) mock
turtleneck
8) Snaps and
buttons are permissible on all garments to include a button-down dress shirt
9) V-necks are
permissible; however, there must be a crew neck "T" shirt under the
v-neck top.
They may contain an emblem or insignia limited in scope and
size to 2 ½ by 2 ½ inches and displayed on left or right chest
area only and also limited to non-offensive communications and/or content to
include but not limited to advertisements which advocate or promote alcohol,
drugs, weapons, profanity, sexually explicit materials or language,
obscenities, and/or any and all other communications which would be
inappropriate for a school environment.
They must be tucked in and may include a pocket on the chest; but the
pocket must be of the same color.
Shoes
Students' choice with the exception of no flip-flops.
Accessories
Students' choice, within reason and according to the
District's Discipline Code.
Non-Compliance
First Offense - Students will be sent home to change or will
be required to wear apparel provided by the School. Refusal will result in students spending
balance of day serving In-School Suspension and one (1) day home suspension
Second Offense - Refusal to comply upon second offense will
result in a three (3) day out-of-school suspension. Each subsequent offense will result in a
three (3) day out-of-school suspension per occurrence.
Conclusion
School apparel must be a flexible response to an ever-changing
educational landscape. Therefore, the
Board, Administration, and Apparel Policy Committee shall meet periodically to
examine this policy and the style in order to meet the changing dynamics that
constantly occur in the District.
