Guidelines for New Castle Basketball Games

All elementary-aged students attending the New Castle Red Hurricane varsity basketball games must be accompanied by an adult. In addition, games end at approximately 8:30pm; all students must be picked up at that time. This is for the safety of all students. Thank you for your cooperation concerning this matter.

"12 Days of Reading"

"GW Love of Reading" continues over the holiday break!

Students at George Washington Intermediate Elementary School are invited to participate in The 12 Days of Reading.  Third through Sixth graders are asked to read each evening during their Christmas break and fill in a ticket sharing what they have read for a chance at prizes in January.   Tickets and information will be passed out to each child before Christmas break begins. Students are welcome to read any form of text that they enjoy or find useful including books, magazines, recipes, directions, etc.   An adult’s signature is required on each ticket, similar to our Read and Respond homework assignments.  The 12 Days of Reading will begin when the students are released for their holiday break on the afternoon of Friday, December 21st and will continue each day of the break while they are home with their families.  Upon their return to school they will turn in all completed tickets for a chance to win prizes.  The prizes will be awarded to several winners in each grade during the first week back to school in January.

Remake Learning

GW students Keara Mangieri and Miley Anderson traveled to CCAC in Pittsburgh to show off their coding skills.  They were joined by Mrs. Mozzocio and Mr. Englehart.  At the event the students and teachers presented on flexible seating and coding.  Keara and Miley worked with Mrs. Mozzocio to design a rotating device that lit up and moved to music using Makey Makey.  They also constructed a guitar using Makey Makey that people could interact with and play.  The night was a huge success and we were excited to share about the great things happening in GW classrooms!

SRC Autumn Promotion

SRC Autumn Promotion  “GW Love of Reading”

We are falling for good books at GW!  GW students in all grades participated in an autumn SRC Promotion.  Every time a student read a book and passed an SRC Test his/her name was put on a leaf and the leaves were displayed on grade level trees outside of the art room.  Students who passed four or more tests during the promotion were treated to a movie in the auditorium. Check out the completed trees below. Many tests were passed, look at all the leaves!  Keep reading GW!
