John F. Kennedy Primary
Welcome Back Print

Welcome back!  I am very excited to begin a new school year!  The faculty and staff have been working hard to help make this another successful school year.

It is with great pleasure that I congratulate the parents, staff, and students of John F. Kennedy  Primary Center for the outstanding PSSA scores received for the 2008-2009 school year.  Although the PSSA is administered to only third grade students, the support that you, the parents, provide to your children and our teaching staff from the beginning of grade one beyond is an essential element in attaining our continual high achievement levels.

Once again, thank you for all the work that you do at home with your child and the support that you provide daily to myself and my teachers.  Together we will ensure that your child has a successful academic experience at John F. Kennedy Primary Center.

If I can be of any further assistance to you, please don’t hesitate to call.  And please remember to check our monthly calendars as well as this website to be informed of any upcoming events.

Thank you.

Due to technical difficulties experienced this year, the Reading Counts  - read a book, take a test – encouragement to read program and earn points to shop at the end-of-the year store was slow to start and finish; however, some students did take the time and put in the effort to read and take tests in the morning before school began.  The top test taker this year was second-grader Austin Browne, who took over 300 tests this school year.  Others in the 25ers club who received a t-shirt, certificate and got to shop at the Reading Counts store first include:  Sophia Sager, Madeline Saraka, Abigail Gonzales, Anton Green, Michael Maas, Braeden Bailey, Alison Lloyd, Dante Mangieri, Logan Gibson, Luke Bongivengo, Alexis Bethle, AnnaLynn Wharry, Victoria Kobbe, and Alyssa Salem.  Congratulations to this group – be ready for next year!!!!  Big reading kick-off in the fall!!!

The students in the life skills classroom at JFK celebrated Cinco De Mayo on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 by having a fiesta.  The students made sombreros to wear for the day.  They played Mexican inspired games including pass the pepper, musical horse chairs, and Mexican BINGO.  They also learned the Mexican Hat Dance, which was a great hit.  The fiesta ended with the breaking of a Pinata and enjoying sangria, homemade salsa and chips, Mexican dip and cookies.  The fiesta was planned by the classroom team, including Carrie Popovich, Jennifer Dantico, Colette Cade, and Caroline Greary.

Mrs. Wharry’s reading group entered a world of fantasy, friends, and fun!  While reading the novel, the group learned of a wonderful world called Narnia, the inhabitants of the land of Narnia, and the ‘human’ friends who visit.  One assignment during the course of the novel was for students to use their imaginations and create a flag that represented the World of Narnia.  Using fabric, paper, glitter, etc., the students created some wonderful designs.  They also put to use their knowledge of Narnia to determine who they wanted their flags to depict in this wonderful, magical world.
