Butterfly Life Cycle |
On April 12, Mrs. Malley and her class welcomed some new additions to their classroom – 9 fuzzy caterpillars!! The caterpillars become part of our class as we discussed the Butterfly Life Cycle. Each day the children wrote in their spring journal about any changes they noticed from the caterpillars. Their writings ranged from what happened as they grew, spun their chrysalises and finally when they broke out and became beautiful butterflies. The children were also able to use the vocabulary associated with each stage. On Monday, May 3 we wished the butterflies well and let them fly away into the world.

Lockley “Cheers” for the Ne-Ca-Hi Champions! |
Lockley Kindergarten had some "March Madness" of their own with a visit from the 2010 WPIAL champions "The Lady Canes." The whole team along with our talented Ne-Ca-Hi cheerleaders came out for a Pep Rally celebrating their accomplishments as well as being a positive reinforcement for the Kindergarten Students. "The Lady Canes" even spoke to the children about getting good grades in school and making sure to always follow the rules.

A Truly Delicious Field Trip! |
The boys and girls at Lockley Kindergarten had a “hoppy” time on March 29 and March 30, 2010. Each class boarded a bus after lunch and took a trip to tour Daffin’s Candy and the Kraynaks Easter Lane. The children learned the process of turning bricks of chocolate into liquid form and how it is shaped into the delicious candies we see at the store. Easter Vacation!”

We're Buggy! |
The children in Mrs. DeRosa's class have been studying bugs and other small creatures. The children painted ant hills, studied insects under a microscope, decorated numerous bugs, and wrote about insects and their habitats. The children used the RM Easiteach program to work on beginning and ending sounds, syllables, as well as counting skills using different insect images. We also had two special visitors in our class, an arachnid named Rosie and a reptile named Meeka. As a wrap up to the unit each child painted a bug shirt using fabric paint and different stamps. Overall the children had a totally buggy experience.
