The School Social Worker is available in each school to address the various needs of our students. This individual works closely with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and community agencies to promote and ensure students' academic and social success at school. Whether a student simply needs help navigating through a difficult or stressful situation or in circumstances where more specialized services are required, the following are some of the ways our School Social Worker can provide support:
- Home visits
- Parent education and training
- Collaboration with community agencies to assist families to obtain help or services needs.
- Referrals for services, both inside and outside the District
- Crisis prevention and intervention
- Collaboration with school professionals
As a member of the education team in each school, our School Social Worker can help students to:
- improve attendance
- cope with crisis situations
- develop self-discipline
- build self-esteem
- enhance problem-solving and decision-making skills
- take advantage of educational opportunities
- learn to resolve conflicts without violence
- assist students with transitioning from school to school
- remain in school and graduate
- work to ensure the educational process continues as uninterrupted as possible while the student is in a homeless situation.
