Although playing piano is new to many of our students, concepts that are taught alongside the instrument are standard aligned to the music curriculum. Early learners are distinguishing between high and low, practicing posture and hand position, and reinforcing tempo and rhythm. Advanced learners are practicing note identification and music performance with accompaniment tracks.
Piano labs are becoming more common in the realm of music education and have shown tremendous benefits to the students outside of the music room. Some of these advantages are increased graduation rates, improved early cognitive development, math and reading skills and enhanced learning in other core subjects. Some of the advantages outside of school are developing critical thinking and leadership skills and fostering self-esteem and the ability to work cooperatively in teams. What an incredible opportunity for our students!
